ExCel, Docklands - London 2015
A fine example of the Docklandsdorf School. Heavily influenced by the Gebrauchtsachlichkeit movement and shot on a not-at-all cumbersome Fuji compact digital camera while taking an aimless stroll around the area in 2015. Ok, ok, that’s quite enough photography in-jokes, thank you very much…
The truth is, I was always rather sceptical about New Objectivity, New Topographics and so on in photography having come from a reportage background. Then, to my horror, I found that I rather liked photographing the built and human-affected environment. Controlling the composition and colour palette and really considering what you are seeing appeals to me. I think this stems from my time at art school, I still look at compositions through the viewfinder as if they are going to be paintings.
